Upon realizing that the only people making truly successful online video were independent individuals making simple and deeply social content, Hank became very curious about what that might mean for the future of entertainment. New genres were being born, monetization strategies that seemed ludicrous only a few months before were exploding.
Ways of creating content and interacting with audiences were morphing and growing and changing constantly until the content became truly compelling and the communities deep and strong. At the same time, the economies of independent online video was becoming significant. But, in all honesty, no one had any idea what was going on.
Hank created VidCon as a chance for content creators to get together, discuss their successes, their failures and their goals for the next generation of entertainment More than that, however, he wanted it to be a celebration of the strong and dedicated communities that make these projects successful. VidCon will host about 1000 community members and online video makers for three days of learning, thinking, fun and dancing this summer in Los Angeles from July 9th to the 11th,
